August 6th Show is Shaping Up!

Hi Guys!

I hope you are all having a superb summer!

As most of you know, Higher Ground will be closed through July, but we will reopen on August 6th for a new season of fun, food, and entertainment in a Christian environment like no other! We are planning a lot of things and have a lot of concepts on the table - I am excited! Anyways -- back to August 6th - Jay Hagy will be the 'House's "featured performer" with support by The Higher Ground House Band and Jeff Arwood's special brand of stand-up comedy. We will be adding to the agenda for the evening of the 6th, so be sure to keep it here for updates. See Jay's web site at www.jayhagy.com.

Have fun! Godspeed...BR

Saturday the 18th - Great show!

Hi All:

How are you guys? Should've been at the 'house on Saturday! It was a great show with a special CD Release event by Harold Kinder and incuded performances by Harold, Cindy Ratliff, Emily Ratliff, and comedic relief by Matthew Vandyke. FUN!

The show fired up with the house band's rendition of "Sweet Home Hosanna" - always a crowd favorite...and a fun song to boot. We are going to work oout some audience participation on that for sure. We had a couple of sit-in members on SAturday - Big thanks to Jack and Robert - awesome job, guys! Emily Ratliff followed with support from the House Band with the song "Hungry." Her set was fantastic, with one acoustic version of the song, "God Will Move."

Cindy Ratliff followed up with a rousing set! MAN! It was cool. She graciously invited the House Band to help out on "Friend of God," and "We will Ride" which were KILLER! Cindy has an awesoem voice with a great range. She is a fantastic performer. We can't wait to get her to come back.

Matthew Vandyke, well,....uh,...er..."Matthew Motivational Speaker" joined us for about 15 minutes of nonstop comedy. Matt kept everyone on thier toes. His bit is reminiscent of the old Saturday Night Live stuff. Matt has an open invitation to join us anytime and has promised that he will!

Harold Kinder took the stage at around 8:40 to promote the release of his new CD, "Forgiven." Harold did a great job with songs by Big Daddy Weave, Mercy Me, and others. It was a real treat to hear some of the music from the new CD, which was available for sale for the first time on Saturday night. He started the show from the back of the room, walking between tables and getting the crowd hyped...the music started and everyone was looking for Harold - but not behind them ;) pretty cool. Harold presented some of the musicians who worked on the record, including Ren Harman and Robert (? sorry, I can't recall his last name! ;) ) who played on a couple of songs live. Check out his web site at www.kinderministries.com, where you can purchase a copy.

Higher Ground will be closed through the month of July. Our next show is scheduled for August 6, 2005 at the usual time. PELASE JOIN US --- AND BRING A FRIEND! Entertainment is yet to be scheduled, but we will keep you posted here and at www.geocities.com/ofghigherground.

REAL QUICK :: A BIG thank you to all who helped run the kitchen during my precious wife's absence. As many of you know, Missi had surgery on Friday and could not be there. She was broken hearted, but each of you really picked up the ball and saved the day. Thanks to Rita Keen, Becky Keen, Wanda Kinder, Linda Harman, Tina Lester, Donna, and everyone else to had a hand in on keeping things going! From my end, I want to thank Ted Watson (way to go, Bro!), Jeff Arwood, Derek Stilwell, Harold Kinder, and Tab Keen for keeping the fire burning upstairs! I would also like to offer a special thanks to Steve Vandyke for so competently sound engineering for the show. YOU GUYS ARE APPRECIATED!!!

PASTORS - we missed you!

Godspeed, everyone! BR

360 - WOW! What a night at the 'House...

Hi everyone!

Hey - if you missed last night at the 'House, you missed some awesome rockin' Christian music!!! 360 was a powerful messenger of the gospel with a message from the throne delivered with the punch to knock out the devil ;) It was killer!

Jimbo Davis, Ed Young, Don Johnson, and Moose (he likes to remain anonymous) took the stage at around 7:40 and knocked our socks off! If you have never heard these guys, do make an effort to do so...songs like, "Yeah," "The prayers of a mother," and "You better pray" carry messages of the need for Christ in our lives in a medium that transcends age. If you are young (or young at heart like me) the kick that exudes 360's music is just what the doc ordered! If you are older, you cannot ignore the quality songwriting that glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ as well as other timely messages about our Christian walk. The guys ministered between and DURING songs. Everyone who was there will be talking about 360 for moths to come. The guys have graciously agreed to visit again in the fall. I CAN'T WAIT!!! 360 has a new web site that is under construction. It is located at www.geocities.com/jimbo360band. Check it out!

The house band was a little lacking - uh, well, members that is. NEVER FEAR! K.T. Vandyke sat in on drums for us and did a great job - THANK YOU K.T.! Roger Vandyke has also been hanging out with us lately doing some acoustic guitar and percussion (alas, Rog was unable to make it Saturday, but we are hopeful he can be there next week!). Ted Watson is really taking the bass to heart and did a great job as well - and Emily Ratliff sang "Hungry," doing a beautifull job, and making the band sound GOOOOOOD! Great job everyone!

We had a visitor in our midst during last night's show. Lee Upchurch, is currently developing a television project that could be shot at Higher Ground. We are discussing the options currently, but it could be that HG will be a TV set!

All in all - a great night at the 'House! Visit us on June 18th ! Godspeed! BR

June 4th - Entertainment change...

Hi All!

I am looking forward (as usual) to our next show this weekend! There has, however, been an entertainment change. Jay Hagy will be unable to join us due to unforeseen circumstances. We are currently working to reschedule his appearance at the 'house. We will let you know as soon as we get his show lined up. SORRY!!! HEY! But I think that we can make it up to you....360 will be AWESOME! ;) ....not to mention the HG House Band and Jeff Arwood is back with more comedy (and a Darth Vader mask...go figure!).

Stay tuned! Don't forget...the 'house is this weekend, June 4th at 7:00 - bring a friend! BR
